At Our Edges: Invitation No. 1

2018

dropshift dance choreographer and director Andrea Cerniglia was invited by SITE/less directors to create and integrate new movement being researched for her work, At Our Edges. Cerniglia asked SITE/less architect David Sundry to add a floating disk fabricated from wooden shipping palettes to the already constructed installation of common brick and bent plywood. dropshift dancers began the performance in the small room adjacent to the main space compressing the doorways with translucent plastic thereby forcing viewers to crouch down when entering. As the work progressed out in the larger space viewers were once again nudged into a compressed perspective as they sat around the circumference of the interlocking circles to witness the dancers’ roll and move underneath the sculpture.
