Deep Time–What Remains Project Residency

2020

In partnership with Defibrillator Gallery and its What Remains 10 year retrospective Kirsten Heshusius spent two weeks in residency at SITE/less developing Deep Time inspired by the  blue pigment relic from Marcel Sparmann’s performance From the unspoken between feet and head – in conversation with, and Jelili Atiku’s leaves used in his performance Earth With Trees and Water I Am (Alaaragbo VIII) from Defibrillator’s 2015 Rapid Pulse festival.

Heshusius  describes her work as visual poetry evoking universal ideas about the world and life as such. In her site-specific performances Heshusius focuses on the transformation of material in relation to the body to create strong, yet minimal visual metaphors. With the body functioning as a mirror, Heshusius elicits, through these transformations, memories of emotion and a subconscious layer, an imaginary, metaphysical poetic given.
